Summer Wedding Dresses

With Winter gone and Summer upon us. Finding a summer wedding dress that encapsulates the style and casual elegance of the season doesn’t have to be a challenge.

First you need to decide on what type of  wedding you will be having, will it be an elegant evening affair, will it be on the beach, or somewhere in-between?

An Elegant Affair

The one thing we love about our african summers are the warm evenings, the electricity in the air that sparks excitement. To show off that flavour you may want to look for an elegant cocktail dress with a touch or sparkle, it can be long or short, with beading or lace, if so desired. Your dress should be cool that you may dance the night away in without overheating.

When it comes to weddings on the beach there are many scenario’s you need to consider such as the wind, high tide and so on. It’s always good to have a back up just in case. With your dress there is no time for a backup, so here are a couple things to consider.
For a start, heels and the beach do not mix, rather go for pretty sandals or maybe barefoot (keep in mind the time of day and the heat of the sand)
If you would like a soft flowing dress to match the gracefulness of the ocean, go for a full length dress, halter neck summer dresses are very popular for beach weddings. Recommended fabrics for this design would be chiffon, georgette or silk.
If you would like a short dress, knee-length or tea-length, try something fitted so that should the wind pick up it doesn’t pick up your dress as well, and become the talk of your wedding.
Depending on how casual you would like to go, you could always wear a gorgeous white sarong, either tied around the neck and worn as a halter style dress, or paired with a white blouse and worn as a skirt.

Somewhere in-between

One design that is popular when it comes to Summer weddings, is the hawaiin Holoku wedding dress. This beautiful wedding dress has a fitted bodice that flows into a gentle A-line dress. This dress is able to be worn in a more casual wedding, yet it also dresses up well for an elegant summer wedding.

A few extra idea’s you can try

Add silk flowers to your dress, or have bold flower prints on your dress, tuck a real flower behind your hair, or wear a white sun hat. All these help to enhance the joy of summer.
